"Since we can't travel around the world we bring the world to us"!

How did we get started?

In March 2005 we met an Australian guy traveling around Europe on his way to Belgrade. He stayed in Belgrade’s first hostel, and in his one week he spent here, he talked us into starting one of our own. He told us everything about traveler needs, and what he liked about certain hostels and what it should look like. So since we are unable to travel freely in Europe (we still need visa’s for all countries) we decided to start a hostel and “bring the world to us”.

After few years in the F & B business we thought we had what it takes, and the knowledge for providing a good service. So we got some money and started as little unofficial hostel with only 3 beds in the beginning. Soon we realized that people do travel and do want to visit Belgrade, so we started the legalization process and by the end of the year we decided to move and start in a new location. So we did and we are here in Strahinjica Bana 18a/2, since April 2006.

From the day we started we have been the Belgrade’s top-rated hostel and to this day we’re still in that position, according to the reviews of the hostelworld.com and hostelbookers.com costumers.

Today we are a hostel with 17 beds, offering everything you need to spend a nice and pleasant time in our Belgrade.

Location of the Star hostel

We are located in the centre of Belgrade by its true meaning.
Belgrade is orientated around 3 spots:
1) Republic square
2) Knez Mihailova Street(main pedestrian street)
3) Kalemegdan

  1. Republic square is the main and favorite meeting place in Belgrade. It’s the spot from where you measure how far something is.
  2. Just above it is the start of the Knez Mihailova Street which is the main walking and shopping district, and it represents the block of the best preserved buildings of Belgrade’s architecture. It has all the shops you need, if you need to buy clothes, touristy stuff – postcards, posters, t-shirts, pottery…, magazines in all world languages, DVD’s …
  3. At the end of it Kalemegdan park starts. Kalemegdan is a medieval fortress, the largest park and the most important sight in Belgrade. It is a favorite place to just go and hang out during the day and the evening by all “Belgraders”, and everyone else. At the entrance there are always some people selling handcrafted goods with a Serbian emphasis.  Kalemegdan includes the fortress, Military museum, gallery, Zoo, restaurant, observatory, church and a chapel, clubs, tennis and basketball courts, all year round exhibition of World War One and two heavy guns and more

And that’s where we are! We are exactly in front of the Kalemegdan park, overlooking it. Pedestrian street (Knez Mihailova) is just one block away from us and the Republic Square is only 5 minutes away from us.

1 minute away: there is a bakery (in our very building). A pharmacist is just few more meters down the road. On the second corner on the left is a grocery shop. Across it is the Kosava restaurant offering great choice of sweet pies and pizzas to go. Down from the Kosava, about 2minutes, is a second grocery shop. Opposite it there is one of top 3 Belgrade’s cocktail bars – Bar Central. Going towards the Pedestrian street from the hostel you’ll find a bank, exchange office, 2 restaurants, bakery and few other shops. In the vicinity of the hostel there are few 24h fast food joints (drunken food), and Kiosk which sell booze, cigarettes, and other daily necessaries. Hostel is also located in what is referred to as the Old town of Belgrade. It is the prestigious part of the city.

Four blocks down from the hostel is the Silicon Valley street (Strahinjica Bana).  It’s the street packed with bars/coffee places where a lot of the new generation goes to parade in their best outfits, and girls in their tiny tops –  from where the street got its name. In the end of the Silicon Valley street the bohemian Skadarska street starts. It’s where the bohemian life of Belgrade started in the first quarter of the 19th century. Some of the restaurants from that time are still open and offering to you Serbian specialties as they once were.

Other: From our hostel it’s very easy to get around, since this is the city centre and it has all the connections you need – by bus, tram or trolley bus. All the sights you want to reach you can by foot, and if you don’t want to walk the stops for the city transport are near by.

So don’t think twice when choosing where to stay in Belgrade, we are one of the oldest hostels in Belgrade, one of the most experienced ones, and here to welcome you to Belgrade, Serbia, and our little home.
